Julianne Moore: On reading The Hunger Games: Mockingjay and knowing her role

Julianne Moore as Alma Coin with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch

Charlie Rose, what is wrong with you? In the interview below with Julianne Moore, on the heels of the first of the Best Actress awards she'll no doubt be taking home for her work in Still Alice, AND in the same week Hunger Games:Mockingjay, Part 1 has its premiere, the actress tells you twice —twice — that she became an actress because she likes to read, LOVES to read, and you never once asked her what or who? What book? Which author? Wouldn't you like to know what kinds of books Moore had her nose buried in as a child? If there was a defining novel that inspired her, opened her eyes, made her sing with recognition?

In the video, Moore shares that she bought the Hunger Games book series for her son, and that she read his copy of Mockingjay at some point, blazing through it, like many other fans of Suzanne Collins books have done. Moore recognized at once there was only one part she could play; the role of Alma Coin, the District 13 leader, with her trademark red hair dyed silvery grey for the part. Mockingjay, of course, had its splashy premiere Monday night, before it hits theaters this Friday, November 21st.

I'll share the Mockingjay trailer following the Charlie Rose video snippet below. Unbelievable Charlie, totally unbelievable!
