Dark Places Sees the Light of Day

We've been waiting for news of the Dark Places movie for a long time, have we not? It was back in 2012 that we first learned that the novel by Gone Girl's Gillian Flynn was headed for the big screen. At the time Amy Adams was attached to play Libby Day, a woman who survives the brutal killing of her family as a child. In February of 2013 we learned Adams was out and that the beautiful Charlize Theron was going to star and produce. In August 2013 I gushed about Corey Stoll playing Ben, the older brother Libby accuses of the murder; he's sentenced to life in prison for the crime. Stoll was stunning as Congressman Russo in the first season of House of Cards, and Hemmingway in Midnight in Paris; I've become quite the fan. Last November the first official still from the film was released and we got our first look of Theron as Libby Day. By this past September 2014 I'd finally read the book and gave you my take, along with my quibbles and questions about the casting.

Are you still with me? Because after being a bit up in the air we now know the movie will see the light of Day; it's headed for a month long run at DirecTV before hitting your local theater; a distribution model that's becoming more and more common.  We still don't know exactly when but I have a hunch it's pretty soon. I learned about it via Matthew Rhodes (@Matthew_Rhodes) one of the long list of the movie's producers but he's the one who favorited a tweet of mine about the project, so he's the one I'm mentioning. He's also behind the movie Whiplash starring Miles Teller, worth your googling time.

As THR reported about the Dark Places movie news, "the deal comes on the heels of the strong success of Gone Girl, starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Flynn wrote the novel Gone Girl and adapted it for the David Fincher-helmed film, which received critical praise and has earned $288 million worldwide."

With Gilles Paquet-Brenner (Wild) directing an impressive cast including not only Charlize Theron as Libby Day but Chloe Grace Moretz as Ben's sleazy girlfriend Diondra, Christina Hendricks as their mother, and Nicholas Hoult as Lyle, the lead member of the creepy 'Kill' club, an amateur sleuth group trying to clear Ben, the thriller should get the viewing it deserves. Still no trailer or poster, but now that A24 and DirecTV are officially on board, you can bet your bottom dollar they're coming. At the end of the day, that bottom dollar is what it's all about. My snarks aside, I'm really looking forward to it.
