The Motley Crew of The Monuments Men Movie (trailer #1)

What do you think of the latest trailer for The Monuments Men?  You can watch the first trailer  here. The upcoming World War II era film based on Robert Edsels fiction book was directed by and stars George Clooney. With the news that Hitler's order was to have all the art destroyed if Germany fell or if he died The true story of a group of art historians and curators fighting to save the great artworks of Europe before Hitler could have them destroyed, this trailer gives us a glimpse of who plays who in this motley crew. George, as George Stout, of course is the leader; he'll keep the operation running smoothly. The rest of the cast: Mat Damon appears to be an artist, probably a restoration specialist as it looks like he's touching up a fresco. And slips easily into banter with his old pal. John Goodman, sculptor. Jean Dujardin, the director of design at The School of Fine Arts in Paris. Bill Murray, an architect from Chicago. Cate Blanchett, a Parisian friend of George's who knows everyone and everything. Hugh Bonneville and Bob Balaban round out the cast in the Great Escape-ist fare which opens December 18th.

Check out the trailer; It does look like their mining familiar territory from Hollywood's golden age of movies ala The Great Escape and The Dirty Dozen where a somewhat motley crew comes together for the greater good. We get to know 'em and love 'em and ultimately lose a few of 'em. Count me in; it's one of my favorite formulas. The fact that it's based on fact makes it all the sweeter. Loving the gorgeous music from Alexander Desplat. And for the Dreaming of France meme followers, it looks like we might be seeing a bit of Paris!
